WSU Wireless with wicd in Fedora tutorial

I noticed that all the tutorials on here are primarily focused on getting WSU wireless to work on linux with NetworkManager, and/ or for a specific distro. This doesn't help me much, as I am running Fedora and I need to use the wicd network manager. Wicd is much more versatile than NetworkManager and it supports the ath5k driver that I need to use for my atheros based wireless card.

So I'll walk through the steps to get WSU wireless to work with wicd. Most of the steps in this tutorial will not apply to just Fedora, so it could easily be used with any other linux distro.

Oops

If you are here because you're pissed that your account was purged and you didn't want it to be, I humbly apologize. The system used apparently had a flaw in its purging algorithm. It made the assumption that everyone who reached the 1 year limit had been warned -- at that time. This means that anyone who'd reached 13 months (1 year + 1 month grace period) was first warned that they had one month left, and then summarily deleted. Fast month, eh?

WSU Wireless in Fedora 8

This guide shows how to use the new WSU PEAP wireless deployment with Fedora 8. This guide assumes you are using Network Manager which is installed by default. If you have chosen to use a different window manager than is default you may need to take steps to launch Network manager, or you may follow the manual instructions.

Fedora doesn't appear to have a package for the CA certificates, so this guide is using the certificate bundled with the Pidgin instant messenger client. Please verify that Pidgin is installed before continuing.
