Fall 2008 Meeting Times and First Meeting

I would like to welcome everyone back, as well as welcome any new students interested in participating in the group. Our currently planned meeting times for this semester are Thursdays at 6PM in Sloan 233 although if there is a large conflict with people's schedules, we can change that. The meetings will be held every other week with the first meeting being next week, September 4th. At this meeting we will be welcoming any new members, introducing what we do, and there will be a presentation by Ben Waldher and Chad Selph on WSU Web Projects. There may also be pizza.

'Women in Computer Science' Endowment

Nerdy and the Grεεk

Most of you are aware that over the summer a PR class conducted a study on the LUG. They felt, and I'm sure many of you agree, that the group could use an improved image. We've also been asked by the CS department to try and increase our female membership in the hopes that this will translate into increased female enrollment in the department.

The PR group offered a suggestion for that. They think that we should hold a social with a sorority.

Done laughing? No? I'll wait.

It sounds ridiculous; I'll give you that. But we've actually come up with a way to make it work.

New meeting times (and sort of minutes)

So the LAN party went of reasonably well, considering that we had a monsoon which kept a lot of people away and power outages all through the night from the lightning. I was told the ETRL took a direct hit, but I didn't see it.

The only bit of business that was covered was setting a preliminary meeting time and agenda. The time that most people agreed on was every other Wednesday at 6pm. Our first meeting will be next Wednesday and I'll post the agenda in the event.

If you have a problem with this time or day-of-the-week, then please attach a comment here. It doesn't do anyone any good if you just decide not to show.

Voting has been closed and we now have new officers. We were unable to find a CEACC representative, so Haven will be standing in for now.
